This archival giclee print offers an exquisite range of tonality and brilliancy faithfully capturing this "Doubles" subject. Makes a strong impression. Suitable for immediate safe viewing (the print is shrink wrapped on foam core board) and ready for framing.
Please enjoy this 1977 street photography image of a double set of garage doors flipped vertically and horizontally to make an abstract design. Included in my series of doubles, all taken in one evening, August 1977. The Doubles Series, comprises of a series concurrent coincidences, double entendres and intriguing pairs.
One fine summer evening in Portland, an old friend of mine, a brilliant graphic designer named Michael Casey, gave me a roll of "spy" film. We were in his studio just down the hall from mine. "See what you can do with it," he mused... "it's really kind of unusual, or so I'm told."
Taking the challenge I took my trusty Nikon out of my studio and on to the street. There I was immediately confronted with the most unusual scene, a visual pun which included a billboard and trucks. The billboard headline proclaimed, "Look! Double Coupons." Beneath the billboard were two identical delivery trucks parked side by side. So, I took the photograph of the sign and the trucks all doubled up amusing myself with this clever chance arrangement of pairs. Seldom had Madison Avenue found such a concurrency linked to an actuality!
Proceeding down the street I immediately ran into identical male twins with their identical twin vans. Holy smoke, I thought... this must be fate. I asked permission to photograph the twins in front of their vans and went on my merry way looking for more. By now I knew this was my destiny! All I could see were doubles, no matter where I turned. Snake Eyes!

I grew up on Long Island, New York, which is an island AND a long peninsula (connected by bridges) not far from the beach and I now live in Florida, which is a long peninsula (connected by land) -- and I am not far from the beach. From the moment I could hold a crayon I have been an artist -- and possessed a "light bulb" inside my head that was always shining. It is a wonderful way to live Life -- being creative and always inspired. I feel very lucky.
I was privileged to attend one of the finest art schools in this country -- Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in Manhattan -- there I met very talented and interesting people. I have shown in Manhattan, upstate New York, on both coasts of Florida (including Miami and Miami Beach). For a while I had an 8 foot x 8 foot mural along Collins Avenue in South Beach. One of the paintings on this website was made into a billboard that stood for a month along the bay in Sarasota, FL.
I like to see the good and beauty in everyone and everything. It is my hope that my artwork reflects these feelings.
My mother's family was from the Caribbean and probably is the reason for my fascination with marine life, plants and tropical motifs.
