Clear Sleeve Protected on Foam Core Shipped Flat, Insured with Tracking The Stump Speech Portraits were captured at Woodburn, Oregon during a series of classic Whistle Stops between Portland and Eugene along the Willamette Valley corridor. Using a 300mm Nikkor with an original motorized Nikon F I captured his speech, rapid fire as RFK continually changed expressions as he discussed the issues of American Foreign Policy, Vietnam and Nationalism. I shot two rolls of 35mm black and white film photographing every significant gesture and facial expression he made during this particular speech. This collection is descriptive of Kennedy's compelling emotional range as he also spoke about the imposing threat of nuclear war. Robert F. Kennedy Whistle Stop Profile, Clyde Keller RFK photo
Robert F. Kennedy Whistle Stop Profile U.S. Presidential Campaign, May 1968 Enroute to University of Oregon, May 18, 1968
RFK Speech: American Foreign Policy, Viet Nam and Nationalism
My unique Whistle Stop documentary arts photo of Bobby Kennedy was captured from inside a caboose at the Albany, Oregon Train Station. This is an unusual composition with a subjective point of view. Robert is shown with his hand to his head, a pose which can also be seen in our speech portrait of him entitled, "Pathos." Here he shown in deep shadow. The evocative (tragic) mood created by Kennedy's profile silhouette pose is framed and juxtaposed by the tuba (right) adding to the drama.
The photograph was taken with an 28mm wide angle Nikkor lens, a personal favorite for working at close quarters but preserving a natural perspective. Exposures were made on Kodak TRI-X film and the pristine negative was used for the making of this "full bodied" black and white photographic print.

In this documentary portrait, RFK is shown speaking to supporters at Albany, Oregon during a classic Whistle Stop, one of the last ever made in American Presidential Campaigns. Earlier, Robert had spoken out strongly about ending the Vietnam War. Following in the footsteps of his brother, President John F. Kennedy, he renounced the unworkable dogmas that held both Russia and the U.S. in seemingly intractable positions. Robert embraced peaceful coexistence in an era of militarism and like his brother was receptive to a standing down from armed rivalry with Russia. As visionaries the Kennedys stood for ideals that could not only lead to peaceful coexistence but transcend the antagonisms generated by opposing social systems.

Robert F. Kennedy, Connecting with Supporters, Clyde Keller RFK Photo
Robert F. Kennedy photo collection Connecting with Supporters Oregon Campaign, May 18, 1968 Rally held at Eugene, Oregon
This documentary arts photo captures the special repoire Robert held with many groups of people. Radiance of his personality, his charisma and his message all combined into one cloth. This was a palpable radiance that could be seen, touched and felt. Robert is shown connecting with a group who gathered to both meet and hear him at the University of Oregon Stadium in Eugene, Oregon on May 18, 1968. His outreach connected repeatedly wherever he appeared during his last few weeks in response to his energy and profound message. Robert was a living embodiment of his slain brother. He represents the resurrection of the promise that he and his brother embodied while in the White House. That restoration, after Dallas, took many forms: Civil Rights at home, Human Rights abroad and the end of Apartheid for all people. His message and charisma and his policies were understood as ending all of the cruel and artificial divisions allowing him to bring a process of healing between people.
The print offers an exquisite range of tonality and candid realism... artfully capturing this important American politician. Makes a strong graphic impression. Suitable for immediate safe viewing and ready for framing.

Classic 1968 photograph of Robert Kennedy greeting a crowd at a political rally for him held in Eugene, Oregon at the University of Oregon. This hard hitting documentary portrait offers an intensive look as captured upon the face of Robert Kennedy during a press conference. The image reflects his resolve as he faced tough questions. His determination to end the Vietnam War clearly shows in this documentary portrait.
The photograph was taken with a 300mm Nikkor lens, a personal favorite for pulling in distant subject matter. Exposures were made on Kodak TRI-X film. Suitable for immediate safe viewing (the print is sleeved on foam core board) and ready for framing.
In this classic piece of Americana I was able to photograph one of the last "whistle stops" with Robert Kennedy addressing a crowd of supporters from inside a caboose. Robert is shown in partial silhouette as I peered out from the rear of the Caboose interior, north towards the Albany Train Depot. I waited for Kennedy to hold his hand out to greet the crowd in a sequence of 6 exposures... the result is a wonderful "decisive moment" catching the crowd unanimously in rapt attention. Voted "Best Picture" of the year in 2001 at the annual Digicraft Pacific NW Print Competition. Selected by the RFK Center for Human Rights in a Fall 2008 Promotion for the renaming of the Triborough Bridge (RFK Bridge) with the NYC Transit Authority. "Mr. Keller's photographs document America at the very highest level of photographic arts. To be in the moment of Whistle Stop, though the lens of Mr. Keller is to connect with history in a beautiful way. The print was exquisite, the service and responsiveness of Mr. Keller truly outstanding. Mr. Keller's archive is arguably the best value available on the web for the serious photography lover\collector." In this documentary portrait, RFK is shown greeting supporters from the back of a caboose. My camera was placed amongst supporters looking up to show the complete picture including the banner, "Oregon For Kennedy." Congressman Edith Green is shown in back of Bobby. This was one of the last Whistle Stop Tours ever made in American Presidential Campaigns. During the tour through departing in Portland the train made its way through Oregon City where this image was captured-- then Harrisburg, Junction City, Corvallis, Albany and Eugene. Robert made several speeches and spoke out strongly about ending the Vietnam War.
