RFK Night Passage, Robert F. Kennedy print, Clyde Keller Photo
RFK Night Passage Outside the Old Labor Temple Portland, Oregon October 1966
From the Robert F. Kennedy photo collection
The ethereal effect was obtained through a combination of time exposure and use of strobe electronic flash. The effect is unlike any other I have seen in a Kennedy photograph and represents an approach I frequently used at the time. It has been said of this image that it is... "definitive of the 1960s."
Kennedy fought for Civil Rights as Attorney General; his positive vision for the advancement of peace, justice, equality and responsibility is still relevant today. His vision for nuclear disarmament, world peace and for the ending of the Vietnam War were projected to audiences world wide throughout during the final months of his life before his assassination.

Edward Moore "Ted" Kennedy (February 22, 1932 - August 25, 2009)
Sadly, Senator Kennedy, one of the historic "lions" of the United States Senate passed away, losing his battle to brain cancer. This 1968 photograph is of a young Senator Ted Kennedy taken in Portland, Oregon and illustrates him speaking at a press conference at the Sheraton Hotel (near the Lloyd Center in SE Portland) while campaigning for his brother, Robert Kennedy. This photograph of Teddy dates from the US presidential campaign during the May Oregon Primary. The photograph was taken with my 55mm Micro Nikkor lens, a personal favorite then for razor sharp portrait photography. His appearance was brief but important in his brothers bid for the presidency.

In this documentary portrait, RFK is shown in a relaxed candid moment with a small gathering of supporters in the Park Blocks near downtown Portland. My camera was placed looking directly at Robert. Robert made many speeches during the Oregon Campaign and spoke out strongly about ending the Vietnam War. Following in the footsteps of his brother, President John F. Kennedy, he renounced the unworkable dogmas that held both Russia and the U.S. in seemingly intractable positions. Robert embraced peaceful coexistence in an era of militarism and like his brother was receptive to a standing down from armed rivalry with Russia. As visionaries the Kennedys stood for ideals that could not only lead to peaceful coexistence but transcend the antagonisms generated by opposing social systems.

Kennedy fought for Civil Rights as Attorney General; his positive vision for the advancement of peace, justice, equality and responsibility is still relevant today. In this documentary portrait, captured in downtown Portland City Club, RFK argued for ending the War in Vietnam. Robert embraced peaceful coexistence in an era of militarism and like his brother was receptive to a standing down from armed rivalry with Russia. As visionaries the Kennedys stood for ideals that could not only lead to peaceful coexistence but transcend the antagonisms generated by opposing social systems.
