1968 Clyde Keller RFK Photo Collection, Warrwen Beatty, DARK EYES
WARREN BEATTY PORTRAIT "DARK EYES"
16x20 Inch Archival B&W Giclee Print Image Dimensions are @11x16.5 inches Heavyweight Epson Satin Paper Signed/Dated on lower white border
Shrink Wrapped on Foam Core, Corner Mounted Shipped Flat, Insured with Trackin
Featured as the cover photo on a new book about Warren Beatty, authored by Peter Biskind and published by Simon and Schuster. The 640 page hard cover book will be available in February 2010. It is entitled, "STAR: How Warren Beatty Seduced America."
In this vintage documentary arts portrait, I captured Warren Beatty on the sidewalks of Portland adjacent to the Benson Hotel. I asked for this pose (hand on chin) with and without his wearing sun glasses. This image combines both poses so that his eyes become visible through his dark sun glasses. Since we both stood our ground this became technically feasable making for a most unusual portrait. I used a Nikon F film camera, loaded with Kodak Tri-X and equipped with a 55mm Nikkor lens. The negatives are pristine producing a sharp looking print!

This archival B&W giclee print offers an exquisite range of tone, depth and brilliancy... faithfully capturing Beatty's complexion. Makes a strong impression. Suitable for immediate safe viewing (the print is shrink wrapped on foam core board) and ready for framing.

RFK Whistle Stop, CABOOSE VIEWPOINT, Clyde Keller Photo

This unique Whistle Stop documentary arts photo of Bobby Kennedy was captured from inside a caboose at the Albany, Oregon Train Station. This is an unusual composition with a subjective point of view. Robert is shown with his hand to his head, a pose which can also be seen in our speech portrait of him entitled, "Pathos." Here he shown in deep shadow. The evacotive (tragic) mood created by Kennedy's pose is framed and juxtaposed by the tuba (right) adding to the drama.
The photograph was taken with an 28mm wide angle Nikkor lens, a personal favorite for working at close quarters but preserving a natural perspective. Exposures were made on Kodak TRI-X film and the pristine negative was used for the making of this "full bodied" black and white photographic print.

Kennedy fought for Civil Rights as Attorney General; his positive vision for the advancement of peace, justice, equality and responsibility is still relevant today. In this documentary portrait, taken at Portland State College, RFK addressed the relevance of the "Spirit of Youth" mindful of the "Revolutionary Spirit" that led to the foundation of the United States. He spoke of "a temper of the will" when dealing with our adversaries. Robert argued for ending the War in Vietnam, citing that the North Vietnamese leader, Ho Chi Minh, had quoted the American Declaration of Independence as their inspiration for them to declare independence from the French. Robert embraced peaceful coexistence in an era of militarism and like his brother was receptive to a standing down from armed rivalry with Russia. As visionaries the Kennedys stood for ideals that could not only lead to peaceful coexistence but transcend the antagonisms generated by opposing social systems.
SPEECH EXCERPT:
“What the students of Poland now fight for, what the students of Czechoslovakia appear to have won is not a victory of ideology; it is a victory of the spirit. This spirit has been heard in the defined courtrooms of Moscow, in the streets of Spain, and in the schools all over the United States. It is he spirit of youth. It's not a time of life, but a state of mind, a temper of the will, a quality of the imagination, a preference for courage over timidity; of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. It is the spirit which knows the difference between force and reason. It does not accept the failures of today as the excuse for the cruelties of tomorrow. It knows the wisdom of Archimedes and that says, 'Give me a place to stand and I can move the world,' and youth is finding a place to stand. That is the spirit I want to see return to the United States of America and that is why I'm running for President of the United States.” RFK- April 17, 1968

This archival B&W giclee print offers an exquisite range of tone, depth and brilliancy... faithfully capturing this important American politician. Makes a strong impression. Suitable for immediate safe viewing (the print is shrink wrapped on foam core board) and ready for framing.
The ethereal effect was obtained through a combination of time exposure and use of strobe electronic flash. The effect is unlike any other I have seen in a Kennedy photograph and represents an approach I frequently used at the time. It has been said of this image that it is... "Definitive of the 1960s."
Kennedy fought for Civil Rights as Attorney General; his positive vision for the advancement of peace, justice, equality and responsibility is still relevant today. His vision for nuclear disarmament, world peace and for the ending of the Vietnam War were projected to audiences world wide throughout during the final months of his life before his assassination.

"RFK UP CLOSE"
Intense street portrait of Robert Kennedy, one of the two Democratic Contenders for the nomination of their party to run for the U.S. Presidency, both taken during the Oregon Primary, May 1968. See "Eugene McCarty Portrait" Catalog No. 427 for matching portrait and/or "Two Portraits" Catalog No. 426 to see both candidates paired together. This intimate portrayal came out of from the volatile May 1968 Oregon Presidential Primary Campaign as McCarthy ran against Bobby Kennedy. The pose is revealing of Bobby's personality with up-close, intimate camerawork. McCarthy won the Oregon Primary and this portrait was made shortly before that election on the sidewalk outside of Portland's Benson Hotel. The camera I used for all of the Kennedy photographs was an original Motorized Nikon F with Nikkor Lenses. The portrait was taken with a 55mm "Micro" Nikkor lens, a personal favorite for available light razor sharp portrait photography. Exposures were made on Kodak TRI-X film. "ALONE"
Compelling, definitive portrait of this most notable American taken less than three weeks before his death. This original documentary arts photograph was taken at the Portland International Airport. This view of RFK, walking alone, is at the Portland, Oregon International Airport. Photographed in May of 1968 during the May Oregon Primary. This portrait was unplanned due to a lull in the day's campaign schedule; I was the only photographer to view this private moment. His dog, Freckles is shown accompanying him (to the stage left) in the grass. A 300mm telephoto Nikkor lens was used to emphasize the isolation. This pose, depicts one of the few quiet moments of the turbulent Oregon May Presidential Primary. Freckles was always close to Robert during these last three weeks.

"AMERICAN POLYPHONY"
14x11 inch Photographic Print Fuji Crystal Archive Lustre Paper Signed/Titled and Dated on lower white border Shipped Flat/ Insured with Tracking
Wonderful Civil Rights Era pictorial photograph of Robert and Ethel Kennedy dating from the May 1968 Oregon Primary Presidential Campaign. The view depicts the couple strolling along the North Oregon Coastline near Astoria. This image captures a photo of the couple as they walk with a group of African American children.
Robert was a living embodiment of his slain brother. He represents the resurrection of the promise that he and his brother embodied while in the White House. That restoration, after Dallas, took many forms: Civil Rights at home, Human Rights abroad and the end of Apartheid for all people. His message and charisma and his policies were understood as ending all of the cruel and artificial divisions allowing him to bring a process of healing between people.

"FACING ISSUES" Portrait captures a defiant determination at a Portland, Oregon Press Conference held during the May 1968 Oregon Primary. This pose, depicts intensity in its expression and resolve as Kennedy faced the turbulent last days of the presidential campaign... "ALL the guilt and the compassion and the pain..." Kennedy fought for Civil Rights as Attorney General; his positive vision for the advancement of peace, justice, equality and responsibility is as relevant today. Copyright © 1968 Clyde Keller.
"ALONE" Compelling portrait of this most notable American taken less than three weeks before his death. This view of Kennedy walking alone is at the Portland International Airport and was unplanned due to a lull in the schedule. I was the only photographer to view this moment. His dog, Freckles is shown accompanying him (to the stage left) in the grass. A 300mm telephoto Nikkor lens was used to emphasize the isolation. This pose, depicts one of the few quiet moments of the turbulent Oregon Primary. Freckles was always close to Robert during these last three weeks. Copyright © 1968 Clyde Keller.
"WHISTLE STOP" AWARD WINNING PRINT. Campaign Whistle Stop Photo from May 1968, taken from inside a Caboose at the Albany, Oregon Train Station. Classic Whistle Stop photograph with RFK in silhouette; this is a perfect "Decisive Moment" capturing the crowd's aspirations for change. The pose shows a cross section of supporters reminiscent of Norman Rockwell Americana subject matter, now a bygone era. Copyright © 1968 Clyde Keller.
