RFK Coast Campaign
Original Clyde Keller documentary photographs of Robert and Ethel Kennedy's Oregon Coast Campaign from May 1968 can be purchased as museum grade art prints. Clyde has captured dramatic images of street crowd scenes. Of note, Robert is shown set against the backdrop of a large American flag. Intimate photos of the Kennedy's beach walk round out the collection. These are compelling personal photographs made by Clyde Keller as he worked directly with Robert Kennedy's campaign. Twelve images from this portfolio are included in the RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights photo collection. One of two images are incorporated into Rory Kennedy's forthcoming HBO documentary about her mother Ethel. Images of Bill Barry (Kennedy's personal bodyguard) are shown for the first time in this outstanding grouping.

This beautiful collection of comprises of 21 authentic documentary photographs made and printed by photographer Clyde C. Keller of Robert and Ethel Kennedy. All images date from their historic May trips to the Oregon Coast. In this well rounded collection images from the Astoria vicinity are featured. Images of Bill Barry (Kennedy's personal bodyguard) and Bobby's pet Spaniel, Freckles are included in this outstanding grouping. Twelve of these images are incorporated into the RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights photo collection. All images are available separately in our RFK Catalog.

Robert F. Kennedy Photo Bill Barry Bodyguard Oregon Coast, May 24, 1968 On May 24, 1968-- Robert Kennedy visited Astoria, Oregon and points south along the Oregon Coastline. In this documentary arts photo Robert chats with his personal bodyguard, Bill Barry. They are shown atop a Ford XL convertible. Below hands reach out from the many supporters who came to see him. Robert Kennedy's vision for nuclear disarmament, world peace and for the ending of the Vietnam War were projected to audiences world wide throughout these last few weeks before his assassination. The camera I used for all of the Kennedy photographs was an original Nikon F with Nikkor Lenses. The photograph was taken with a 28mm Nikkor, a personal favorite for fast available light photography. Exposures were made on Kodak Ektachrome film. The original transparencies and negatives from my Kennedy Collection have been kept in dark storage and are in pristine condition for their vintage.

This documentary portrait dates from the US presidential campaign during the May Oregon Primary. The speech took place on May 24, 1968 in Astoria near the Oregon Coast.
I used an advanced motorized Nikon F with a 300mm Nikkor lens, a personal favorite for pictorial or photojournalism photography. The extreme telephoto perspective lends a compression of perspective perfect for the making of a dramatic portrait. Kodak Ektachrome film was used for this expressive study.

In this documentary portrait, RFK is shown in standing tall atop a convertible parade car while visiting the Bumblebee Tuna Facility in Astoria, Oregon. Surrounding him are workers from the Bumblebee Tuna facility dressed n their work clothes. A Southern Pacific freight car looms in the background. Later he was to visit a sick Russian sailor nearby at the Astoria Hospital. His concerns for a thaw in relations with Russia were made during this short visitation. Following in the footsteps of his brother, President John F. Kennedy, he renounced the unworkable dogmas that held both Russia and the U.S. in seemingly intractable positions. Robert embraced peaceful coexistence in an era of militarism and like his brother was receptive to a standing down from armed rivalry with Russia. As visionaries the Kennedys stood for ideals that could not only lead to peaceful coexistence but transcend the antagonisms generated by opposing social systems.

Selected by the RFK Center for Human Rights and the New York Transit Authority for use in a promotion (Fall 2008/Television PSA) for changing the name of the Triborough Bridge to the RFK Bridge.

In 2007, Kennedy’s HBO documentary film entitled the "Ghosts of Abu Ghraib" premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and won the 2007 Primetime Emmy Award for Best Documentary.
