This Wide-Field Panorama captures a northerly vista of the dramatic basaltic High Cascades lava flows near the Dee Wright Observatory off the McKenzie Pass Scenic Byway. The photograph was taken June 29, 2007 inside the Belknap Crater region. A Nikkor 35mm lens was employed to capture the wide 92x53 degree sweep, atmosphere and stark contrast of the rough, jagged "clinkery" surface of the basaltic lava flows. Shown left is a lone fir tree surrounded by the basalt. The panorama was made facing intermittent 20 mph wind gusts and drizzle, both a technical challenge. We were particularly entranced with the atmospheric effects imposed by the inclement weather. The violence and huge scale of the basaltic flow is shown to impressive effect by the use of panoramic technique.
This archival giclee print offers an exquisite range of tonality and brilliancy perfect for this volcanic subject. Makes a strong impression. Suitable for immediate safe viewing (the print is shrink wrapped on foam core board) and ready for framing.

Shown are the Smith Rocks as seen looking through the Canyons Ranch Gate. Smith Rocks has been the subject of many paintings, photographs and works of art. We found this view literally chasing the last glimmerings of light as sunset approached. The sun darted in and out of the clouds and for a brief one minute (or less) presented us with this splash of golden light striking only the rocks and the gate! We were attracted to the cool steel blue colors of the clouds set against the brightly lit stone, wood and road... and rather Irish looking at that.
East Lake Resort, Newberry National Volcanic Monument Park
The view captures a close-up view of a picturesque truck door found at the East Lake Resort withinside the Newberry National Volcanic Monument Park. The old truck was brightly lit by the afternoon sun. The play of light shows off the antique forms juxtaposed by the bright saturated colors found on the pink rusty door and green wood framed pickup bed. The setting by East Paulina Lake is perfect for this old 1940s truck which once served the needs of the resort. Its placement near the lakeside provides a sense of time and place removed from the present day resort which offers such amenities as an internet cafe.

An intimate photographic view of stone artifacts ( Mortar & Pestel) placed back into their natural setting at a lake shore once inhabited by the Snakes Indians (including Northern Paiute, Pitt and Shoshone) for a period of nearly 7,000 years. These semi-nomadic gatherers inhabited the Lakeview region of Oregon. Artifacts are quite similar to those displayed at the Favell Museum in Klamath Falls. Many of the examples on display at the museum were found during the foundation excavation while the facility was being built and represent works by the Klamath and Modoc indians. The volcanic materials from which these Mortars were made extend eastward into the Lakeview region. Our Mortar and Pestel came from a farm over 85 years ago (1920s) in that area. It is a particularly beautiful unspoiled example in unbroken condition.

Because of the wonderful qualities of the lens... its wide scope makes the Pine Cone seems to float in a dreamy continuum. Print is hand signed (light fast archival black ink) and dated on the white border beneath the image. Print is imbued with an iridescent (vivid) wide range color gamut which heightens the sense of the picturesque elements. The image was produced with a SuperWide 10mm lens using our new Nikon D300 camera... and in "Live View" mode.

Within the framework of the composition, abstract line and color are juxtaposed to the three dimensional pictorial compositional elements... making for a delightful visual potpouri. The Central Oregon image captures a wistful feeling which has been fully realized in the print making process.

These are the remains of a Sitka forest once standing along the Oregon Coastline at Neskowin, partially petrified and nearly 1,700 years old. The trees were exposed for the first time (just recently) when the beach sand was not replaced after winter storms, something that is new for this coastline and may be the result of global warming. Now barnacles grow on them and they are beginning to decompose. The next quake is overdue, so please enjoy. This scene will vanish when it is subducted during the next quake. Photographed on September 26, 2009.
This archival giclee print offers an exquisite range of color, tone and brilliancy faithfully capturing this atmospheric subject. Although the view is wide the perspective is natural inviting the eye to explore the scene in all of its glorious detail. Makes a strong impression. Suitable for immediate safe viewing (the print is shrink wrapped on foam core board) and ready for framing.
"ANCIENT SITKA AT NESKOWIN"Copyright 2009 by Clyde Keller
A rare look at the Oregon Cascades in the afterglow of sunset with rays of light shooting out from the hidden sun now just beneath the mountaintops. Under these fleeting atmospheric conditions, colors not ordinarily seen become visible offering a brilliant saturated color palette. Captured on August 14, 2007 in a remote area off Pine Mountain east of Bend, the ethereal image is a study in form and color with strong compositional framing to give emphasis to the dazzling sky, anchored by the Cascades here shown in silhouette. Please enjoy this special moment observed.

Belknap Crater is a rugged, awe inspiring and mystical place on top of our local world here in Central Oregon. This August 1999 image of the "rough, jagged clinkery surface" was caused by the rapid cooling process from the last recent eruption. Such drama takes your breath away. Belknap is a region that defies the old cliche... "once you've seen it, you've seen it all." One cannot help but be impressed by the vast scale of volcanism. This fisheye image captures my first impression of this foreboding landscape. It just strikes you as something quite alien and it's everywhere around you... it simply cannot be ignored.

This archival giclee print offers a bold range of film grain, color and brilliancy capturing this dramatic Belknap Crater region volcanic subject. Makes a strong impression in this larger 16x20 inch format. Note that the well defined film grain patterns lends a "pointalistic" aesthetic quality emphasizing the basalt rockery. Suitable for immediate safe viewing (the print is shrink wrapped on foam core board) and ready for framing. Windy Point stands at 4,909 feet and signals the gateway to the Belknap Crater Region. It's a wayside "must" stop along the Old MacKenzie Highway providing a dramatic vista of the basaltic lava flows scarcely two thousand years old.
This image was taken nearly ten years ago with a 16mm fisheye Nikkor to capture ALL the scene had to offer. The figure is included to give an idea of the amazing scale. The region is a rugged, awe inspiring and mystical place on top of our local world here in Central Oregon. The "rough, jagged clinkery surface" seen in the background was caused by the rapid cooling process from the last recent eruption. Such drama takes your breath away. It just strikes you as something quite alien and it's everywhere around you... it simply cannot be ignored. And it brings you back time and again to uncover more of its mysteries.

This austere landscape rendered in black and white (quadtone) consists of basaltic rockery, bleached out trees and atmospheric skies. It was photographed from the Dee Wright Observatory at the Belknap Crater on October 18, 2008. Located in the High Cascades Plateau this region is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in the the United States. The snags punctuate the landscape with a poignant reminder of a former grandeur in a landscape almost devoid of life.

This is a wide-field panoramic view overlooking a section of the Booth Fire as taken near Mt. Washington in June of 2004. On August 20, 2003 it became a Federally Declared Disaster in the Deschutes National Forest, near Sisters, Oregon. The 2003 Booth Fire ravaged over 60,000 acres of old growth forest by September 20th. This magnificent forest had withstood many smaller fires until this controversial catastrophe left its mark on the land. This archival giclee print offers an exquisite range of tone and brilliancy faithfully capturing this historic manmade forest fire, still a controversial subject. The wide-field view of the historic fire is rendered in an almost 3D like perspective that is statling to the eye. The detail is enhanced by the use of an ultra sharp Sonnar lens. Makes a strong impression, especially with the contrast of burned trees, mud and stagnant pools. Suitable for immediate safe viewing (the print is shrink wrapped on foam core board) and ready for framing.
"BOOTH FIRE PANORAMA" Copyright 2005 by Clyde Keller
Here is an intimate view of a beautiful docked Canoe captured dockside at the Oregon High Cascades Lava Lake Shoreline on October 18, 2003. This was a beautiful late afternoon scene made during one of the glorious Indian Summer days in this High Cascades volcanic region. A moderately wide lens was employed to capture the beauty of the docked canoe, reflections and late afternoon light. In the background is the shoreline and meadow surrounding Lava Lake, sometimes cited as one of the crown jewels of this High Cascades lake region with 320 acres of excellent fishing for rainbow trout. It is located on the cascades lake Loop situated nearby Mt. Bachelor, South Sister and Broken Top.

"CRATER LAKE PANORAMA" Crater Lake National Park, Oregon Photographed in October of 2004
When you first visit Crater lake it will overwhelm you with its sheer magnitude and scale. Something very powerful occurred here and rather recently at that. This is a favorite vista located near the lodge. It is also the subject of "Wizard Island Revealed." In this panorama I wanted to give the sensation of taking it all in even beyond what the eye can naturally see. The result of this effort is a striking panorama that approaches 160 degrees from side to side. Wizard Island is shown near the center of the print. Not visible in this small web reproduction is the Phantom Ship which can be seen on the large three foot print!
"Crater Lake Panorama" faithfully captures the vivid colors of sky, water and caldera. It is claimed that Crater Lake possesses the deepest blue waters of any lake in North America. This was the perfect day to make this beautiful panorama and capture its beauty.

"DEATH OF A MONUMENT" Metolius River Headwaters Ponderosa Pine, Central Oregon
The photograph was taken May 10, 2008 near the headwaters of the Metolius River. An ultra-wide 10mm lens was used with our Nikon D300 to render the scale of this impressive forest scene. We were particularly drawn to the Ponderosa, a vestige of its former grandeur, now under decay. A burst of defused sunlight breaking through overhead clouds enhances the appreciation of depth lighting up the foreground and interior of the forest scene.

This archival giclee print offers an exquisite range of tonality and brilliancy perfect for the cherry blossom subject. Makes a strong impression. Suitable for immediate safe viewing (the print is shrink wrapped on foam core board) and ready for framing.
Every year Cherry Blossoms bloom and fall on this Sellwood walkway. The beauty of this captured moment (April 23, 2003) lasted less than a few hours before the encircling patterns of fallen petals were whisked away or trampled upon. For the making of this image I watched the petals fall, accumulate, and then waited for favorable lighting. The concept for this somewhat abstract image is helped by picturing the grass as a hill and the petals like stars overhead in a sky. The swirling patterns of fallen petals become like constellations... creating an altogether dreamy abstraction or concrete reality... your choice!
"FORT ROCK AT SUNSET" Oregon Outback, Christmas Valley Region
This is an exquisite wide-field view of the historic monument found near Christmas Valley in Central, Oregon. Captured on August 16, 2007.
This view looks towards the Fort Rock Monument at sunset captured on August 16, 2007. Located in Central Oregon to the East of the Oregon Cascades (near Christmas Valley) the monument has both a fascinating geologic history and is filled with Pacific Northwest Indian and Pioneer lore.
