Hedy Lamarr Backseat,, Hollywood movie star dream, Clyde Keller photo
Hedy Lamarr Backseat Hollywood movie star dream Summer classic car show at Seaside, Oregon Annual Event, photographed in 1998
Classic American Cars abounded on Main Street in the tourist town of Seaside, located on the North Oregon Coast for this annual summertime event. This image of 1940s Hollywood movie star, Hedy Lamarr, caught my eye with its noirish window lighting as we strolled west towards the famous turnaround which ends with a fabulous view of the beach. She invited me in, so to speak for a double take on this dreamy star's legacy replete with a pair of gloves and an "adorable" stuffed poodle. I liked her better as Delilah in Cecil B. DeMille's Samson and Delilah, but this staged setup was the perfect sendoff for a walk through nostalgia on a lovely summer afternoon.

My archival giclee print offers an exquisite range of color, tone and brilliancy faithfully capturing Hedy as placed in this nostalgic Detroit car interior. The negative from which this print is made is in pristine condition with little if any color deterioration. Makes a strong impression with excellent scale. Suitable for immediate safe viewing (the print is clear sleeved on foam core board) and ready for framing.

Homage to Timothy Leary, Psychedelic Turn On, Clyde Keller art print
Psychedelic Turn On Turn On - Tune In - Drop Out Timothy Leary Interpretive Art Print Here is my homage to the king of LSD from my original negatives. In 1967 Leary made waves across the United States with his use of psychedelic drugs. During his speech (at Portland State) he kept everyone guessing as to whether or not the "colorless and oderless" liquid he drank before a thousand or so students at the College Center was the real deal. My art print rekindles the psychedelic flavor of the times. The original black and white film was converted to a high contrast lith (some years back) and just revisited in an inventive interpretation, born anew. Please note that the typography surrounding the image is for display and the fine art print features by signature. Please note that this image is included in the Ken Kesey Section as it pertains to "LSD and The Politics of Ecstasy" in Mark Christensen's book on Ken Kesey entitled, "Acid Christ." As of February 2011 it is headed towards multiple printings with a PB forthcoming - Fall 2011.

About my portraits: Timothy Leary spoke at Portland State College in 1967. After his appearance I found him sitting alone in a smaller annex room reserved for teachers eating lunch. I approached him with my motorized Nikon in hand and sat down to join him at his table. We started talking and I commenced to "blow" a roll of 35mm film while we made conversation. In this sequence Leary is reacting to my photographing him- just like someone might do alone in and old fashioned photomat parlor- cruising from one inventive pose change to another. In the Fog, Seattle Smith Tower, Clyde Keller Kodachrome photo
In the Fog Seattle, Washington Smith Tower building From original Kodachrome 35mm film exposure
My impressionistic image of the Smith Tower was taken in January of 1981. The fog was thick and partially obscured the view of Seattle's most venerable historic building, once it's most modern "skyscraper" and now revered for its beauty.
This is a most romantic rendering capturing the Smith Tower being engulfed by the fog. The image is unusual because of the sunlight partially illuminating the last few stories providing a glowing effect. I couldn't help but be reminded of the fantastic Flatiron Building in Manhattan, New York-- photographed by Alfred Steiglitz over 107 years ago.

The print is made to museum grade standards and should last well over 150 years under normal display conditions. This is a handsome print of a great Seattle landmark. Note that the copyright information does not appear on the final signed print.

Martian Dreamscape, surreal Clyde Keller photo art print
"Martian Dreamscape" Surreal face in the rocks Painted Hills location John Day Fossil Beds, Oregon
My surreal art print captures the flavor of the Mars-like hills and terrain as found in the exotic Painted Hills area of the John Fay Fossil Beds of Central Oregon. Central to my composition is the suggestion of an ancient looking statuesque King Tut like face with his tunic emerging from repetitive patterns. The fun is in the imagining conjured up by my abstract illustration and letting the subconscious have free reign to discover what lies beneath the surface of this alien landscape.
This ancient scene with its myriad of surface cracks and fossils is said to be about 33 millions years old.
My surreal fine art print was produced from a single exposure with an ultra wide angle lens-- which was then flipped to create an exotic, dreamlike and otherworldly illustration.

The Nehalem River is most enchanting, providing a world of romanticism-- its carved out rockery, deep basins and cascading waters flow over rocks unseen. There is a majesty in its primitive fury as it winds its way through forests to the Oregon Coast. Nothing can quite match its beauty; it is a sanctuary to return to and be renewed. In this impressionist image we see a nude dipping her leg into a deep still pond of river water. She is surrounded by magnificent rock formations and the fairy like magic of the romantic terrain. The archival giclee art print offers vivid light fast color, done in a watercolor technique with glowing edges perfect for a moonlit subjective quality.
Please enjoy!

16x20 Inch Archival Giclee Print Image dimensions are @12x16 inches Printed on heavyweight Epson Satin Paper Signed/Dated and Titled on lower white border
Clear Sleeveed on Foam Core Shipped Flat, Insured
Mount Washington with its pristine forests and spectacular natural beauty was the subject of this July 2003 photograph made just before sunset on the way to Sisters, Oregon.
Just weeks later on August 16th, the region would be engulfed in forest fires that would burn through October. Much of the primeval old growth woods seen in this image were razed by the fire leaving a charred landscape.
In this interpretive impressionistic work I wanted to impart a feeling from the memories and rapture this site could evoke. In the presence of such beauty, Mt. Washington could cast a spell on all those that gazed upon it. The sensation was undeniable. Standing under the grandeur of Mt. Washington at it soared over woodsy greens, itself struck by bold intensities of color soon to fade... it was hard to imagine that this sanctuary could have been vulnerable to the flames that consumed it.
The print is bold in its use of color reminiscent of the impressionist Georges Seurat of the late 19th Century. Points of color and light capture the essence of this primeval scene in my own version of his "chromoluminarism." Hope you enjoy it!

Native View, portrait of Stanley Park regular, Clyde Keller photo
Native View Portrait of Stanley Park regular Vancouver BC, Canada
My documentary arts image features a colorful local character from the Denman neighborhood facing English Bay on a park bench near the entrance to Stanley Park. One of my favorite images from the many trips to Vancouver, Canada... this portrait offers a wistful feeling of nostalgia and a story telling moment. The photograph was caught on the fly while crossing the street. I bid the gentleman greetings and asked to take a few more photographs of him... but this unobtrusive moment stuck with me in its genuineness... a perfect example of a found moment, frank and telling and a true portrait of one of Vancouver's own.
The art print offers an exquisite range of tonality and brilliancy faithfully capturing this Canadian subject. Makes a strong impression in this larger 16x20 inch format. Suitable for immediate safe viewing and ready for framing.

Neon Sunset in Kodachrome, original Clyde Keller photo art print
Neon Sunset in Kodachrome Old Montgomery Ward building, Portland, Oregon
From Original 1976 Kodachrome
My vintage documentary arts image shows the old Montgomery Ward & Co. building in Portland, Oregon. Captured at sunset-- the fauvish colors matched the sign for less than a minute-- but were memorialized on this 1976 Kodachrome, perfectly preserved in dark storage for the past 34 years.
A photographer friend of mine, Steve Bloch, who remembers the old building, remarked, "Real nice shot of the first department store on Venus." And so you have it-- an ethereal rendering of a Portland landmark now destined for other worlds. And-- a fave of mine.

Old Rusty at the Manzanita City Dump, circa 1972, Clyde Keller photo
Old Rusty at the Manzanita City Dump Oregon coast fog, circa 1972
In the early 1970s I lived in the quaint coastal hamlet of Manzanita located on the North Oregon Coast. Some might cite Neakahnie Mountain, the long stretch of beach or the sand dunes as what they love about the area, but I'd have to give the nod to the old Manzanita city dump. It wasn't just a landfill, it was an amazing time capsule where antiques abounded that are now the stuff that internet auction sites are made of.

"Olympics Arising" captures a feeling of ascendancy of a young mountain range being formed by uplifting forces as tectonic plates collide. In this frame sunset is upon us and the last rays of light strike the four mountaintops of Mt. Olympus. The range was named by English captain John Meares, who reportedly thought they were beautiful enough for the Gods to dwell there-- referring to the Greek mythology.
We stayed on to watch the "falling stars." The Olympic Mountain Range is located on the Olympic Peninsula of western Washington in the United States. They are part of the Pacific Coast Range.
