Subway Embrace
New York City, Summer 1976
Part of a collection of photographs taken during and near the time of the 1976 New York Democratic Convention when I spent several months in NYC. This haunting portrait of young lovers about to embrace (against the stark backdrop of graffiti) was taken on a subway in Manhattan en route to the North Bronx. It is a popular image that still resonates nearly 35 years later.
