Specifications
"DIZZY AT JAZZ ALLEY" 1990 Jazz Alley Performance Seattle, Washington DESCRIPTION: 1990 photograph of a playful Dizzy Gillespie at Jazz Alley in Seattle, Washington. The Signature is from this session and has been incorporated into the print. John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie (October 21, 1917 - January 6, 1993) was instrumental in founding Afro-Cuban Jazz.
The type of camera I used for this series of portraits was a Rolleiflex TLR and Nikon F2 with Nikkor Lenses. This photograph was taken with an 180mm f/2.8 Nikkor, a personal favorite for available light documentary photography. I returned every night while he performed to enjoy his great music... and he sometimes acknowledged my photographic enthusiasm in the affirmative. This is one such occasion. Please enjoy!
