"Election Night Statement"
May 28, 1968 Benson, Hotel, Portland, Oregon
This vintage documentary arts image depicts Robert Kennedy conceding the election to his Democratic opponent, Eugene McCarthy in his bid for the Presidency in the 1968 Oregon Primary. Appearing in that photo with RFK and Ethel are ABC News TV Correspondent Bob Clark (to the left, in profile) and ABC News Radio Correspondent Steve Bell (to the right, full face). The photograph was taken with a customized motor Nikon F equipped with an 85mm Nikkor lens, known for its extraordinary resolution. Exposures were made on Kodak Tri-X film. The original negative has been kept in dark storage and is in pristine condition producing a superb print of beguiling tonality.
