DESCRIPTION:
Magnificent reproduction of the "Via Appia Imaginaria" Rare frontispiece for the 2nd Volume of his four volume works on Roman Ruins; this important work seldom if ever appears for sale or auction and is almost always missing in volume sets. Uncommon in museum art collections. It has been written that this work of the imagination represents the birth of modern subjectivity. This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a print reproduction (of our pristine original) that would otherwise be near impossible to obtain, and without any apparent loss of quality. Rivals anything we have ever see... simply stunning!
"As an introduction into the 2nd of four volumes on Roman Antiquity, published in 1756, Piranesi imagined a roadway surrounded by a grand variety of monuments and funeraries. This engraving is a sensational view into the author's whimsical imagination, since these monuments or funeraries do not exist in reality. Its obvious destiny is to stimulate the contemporary imagination."
CONDITION: Superb new Museum Grade Archival Print on Hahnemuhle Etching Paper considered to offer the highest possible quality. Every detail has been faithfully preserved. Note the II. Tom II marks, engraved, top right corner. Print life is estimated by Wilhelm Imaging at 250 years when placed behind glass with UV protection. This reproduction restores the original to its former grandeur fitting for such a magnificent and important work. Made directly from the original etching with a Large Format Camera equipped with an incomparable Better Light Scanning Camera Back. Every detail has been preserved with great clarity and tonal nuance.
